In a nutshell, we co-ordinate the Welsh for Adults provision across North Wales, working with 8 independent providers to deliver the highest standards of learning. We also act as a one-stop-shop for Welsh learners in the region and offer information, advice and resources to put them on the right track and help ensure the best possible learning experience.
The Centre was established in 2006 following the Welsh Assembly Government's restructuring of Welsh learning for adults. 6 regional Centres were established throughout Wales, including the one in North Wales, to bring the Welsh for Adults provision together to achieve national coherence and standards, with a focus on regional and grass-roots delivery.
The North Wales Centre's catchment area includes: Ynys Môn, Gwynedd (excluding Meirionnydd), and Conwy in the west, and Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham in the east. The region has a population of 631,283; with approximately 30% who can either speak, read or write Welsh. Around 7,000 people enroll on Welsh courses in North Wales each year.
