Why learn Welsh?
You may not have had the opportunity to learn
Welsh when you were in school but these days
Welsh in schools is thriving. In fact, nowadays 40%
of children aged 5-15 can speak Welsh!
If your children are learning Welsh at school you've got a great opportunity to learn with them by enrolling on your own Welsh course. And not just a regular course. There's such a demand for learning Welsh from parents that every Welsh for Adults Centre has courses specifically tailored towards family learning, giving you the chance to start chatting to your kids in Welsh. Imagine the benefits! You'll be able to help them with their homework, and they will probably help you with yours! Even better, you'll know for sure if they're being cheeky in Welsh! Learning together is great fun. You can use the language when you are out and about. You can work out the meaning of your town's name and the local streets in your area, for example. And why just limit it to you and your children? Get your grandparents, aunties, uncles and friends involved. It will bring you all together! Learning with the family is amongst the most popular reasons why 20,000 people a year start learning Welsh. Which is great if you're looking to do the same, because there are now courses designed especially for parents, grandparents and others to enable them to learn Welsh with their family. As well as having family related content, the courses have family friendly times. If you want to learn while your children are at school or nursery then there'll be a course available. There will also be family events thrown in so you can all enjoy using the language socially. What next? Find your nearest course and get learning!
